Students are expected to arrive at school on time to start the school day at 8:30. We start lining up outside the bootroom at 8:20. Do not enter the school building in the mornings unless your child is in SFO or you have a scheduled meeting.

We have staff supervision outside of school from 8.10. If students from grade 1 to 4 need to arrive before 8.10,  they can be enrolled to attend morning SFO.

In PYP, we are utilizing a Student Information System called Toddle that is designed specifically for IB PYP Schools to integrate teacher planning, record keeping, communication with students and parents and an online journal/portfolio. It is called Toddle. Students are provided secure logins to this web-based system to connect with course work and to foster communication about student learning.

Please note that this is for teachers to communicate about learning. Parents should communicate individual concerns through teacher emails.
Parents will be able to connect to their child/children on Toddle very shortly. The school is planning an online parent session with Toddle before the Christmas holiday break.

In MYP, we are utilizing a Student Information System that is designed specifically for IB Schools to integrate teacher planning, record keeping and communication with students and parents. It is called ManageBac. Students and Parents are provided secure logins to this web-based system to connect with course work and to foster communication about student learning.

Please note that this is for teachers to communicate about learning. Parents should communicate individual concerns through teacher emails.

Look at the link below to see a step by step guide for parents on how to use ManageBac.

If you have not received or lost your log in username or password, please send an e-mail at office@this.no.

The ThIS School Library has a wide collection of fiction at all levels – from picture books to Young Adult fiction.
The non-fiction section is organised by the Dewey Decimal system and easy to navigate.

Click here to see our library website!

If a student is going to be late or absent at a certain day e.g. due to a doctor/dentist appointment or sickness, parents/guardians must notify the school by 8:30 via ManageBac under the attendance excusal tab for MYP or via email to class teachers for PYP. Please inform the office if student is absent due to any infectious disease.

Students who arrive late at school have to report to the office first before entering their class. Failure to do so might result in being marked as absent.

Students are allowed to leave the school grounds for planned appointments with the written notices from parents. Parents must notify the school via ManageBac under the attendance excusal tab for MYP or by email to class teachers for PYP.

AtB Free bus card
Students are entitled to a free school bus card according to the Norwegian law (Opplæringsloven §7-1 and Friskoleloven §3-7).
Students in grade 1 who live further than 2km from school are entitled to a free bus card and 4km for students from grade 2 and up. An application form can be found here for the English version and here for Norwegian version.
If your child lives in two different homes, this form needs to be filled out and submitted as well.

You can check the bus timetable and the bus stops here.

For detailed information about all the changes, please follow this link.

Other transport
Students with a disability, temporary injury or sickness can apply for other means of transportation if necessary. Parents can send a request to the school with a medical certificate and the school will forward it to Sør Trøndelag Fylkeskommune who will make the decision.
More information regarding school transportation can be found here.

How t:kort skole (bus card) works
The school card is a personal card with name and date of birth. The school card contains a computer chip where information about your travel rights is stored. Be careful with your school card and do not make holes in it or subject it to any other rough treatment.
The school card can be used all the years you have been granted a school transport.
The school card contains two valid trips per day. The total number of trips in the school card is individual and follows the right that each student has for school transport. For full school transport right, there are two trips per day in the 190 days of the school year. The school card can be used throughout the year, but will run out of travel if used more than the right indicates.
The school card only applies to the distance to and from the school.
The school card for the primary school is valid every weekday according to the school calendar.
The school card must not be used outside a valid area or time period. It is then considered misuse and the name and address are noted. In case of misuse, AtB will send information about the incident to the parents.

To you who use the bus to and from school
As a student, there is a lot of new to get acquainted with, and getting to and from school is part of this. AtB and our operators want the students to have a good experience, and we want to make it a safe and good school route.
More in-depth information about school transport can be found on the websites of Trøndelag County Municipality, AtB and UDIR.

Free school transport
This is a right you can get if you meet different criteria. It is Trøndelag county municipality / your municipality of residence that manages this right. Contact your school if you need help along the way. Once the right has been decided, AtB orders and organizes the transportation in accordance with this decision. The transportation is carried out by various carriers that run on a contract with AtB. AtB and the schools work together to provide good and clear information about school transport to the students.

Remember that the right only applies to the section that is according to your decision.
This is regulated through a separate dimensioning regulation. (Lovdata)

Parental responsibility

Parental responsibility stands also strong in the school transport, including the training in being able to handle the journey on your own. Both along the walkway to / from and waiting at a stop, on board a vehicle, changing buses and having a valid ticket. Some students may at first find it scary to take the bus alone. Here, parents have a special responsibility to secure and prepare their own children to handle this journey themselves.

Traffic safety

Important point with regard to school transport and use of the offer.

At the stop:

Use reflectors – even where there is street lighting.

  • Give clear signs to the driver.
  • Keep a good distance to the bus / taxi when it is moving.
  • Show good queue culture.
  • Do not cross the road until the bus has left!

On board the vehicle:

  • Always wear a seat belt. It is mandatory where there are seat belts
  • Show general consideration for the others who travel.
  • Do not walk around the bus while driving.

Travel document for students with the right to free school transport

All pupils with the right to free school transport shall be granted a travel document through AtB.
Pupils in primary school use electronic travel vouchers (t: card school) and pupils in upper secondary school use digital travel vouchers (Pocket ID).
The travel document is issued on the basis of an approved right to free school transport, between your place of residence and your school. All trips other than the school trip must be paid for privately, and you must always bring and register the travel document upon / before boarding. You do this either by scanning the card at the stop, on the bus or by activating the relevant ticket in Pocket ID.

Seating vs. standing

Students with the right to school transport also have a right to a seat in the school transport, however, there are several reservations. This is regulated through a separate dimensioning regulation. (Lovdata)

Route information

Updated routes and routes for the entire offer are available at atb.no as well as a separate app from AtB. From the autumn, all bus departures will have real-time information available through this app.

Deviation

It is important to notify if something happens along the way. Report to your school, which in turn will notify further.

t: card school
Electronic travel card that is linked to the student’s travel right for free school transport. You must always register your card with each and every trip, however, not when changing buses and having it on board when you travel.
It is a parental responsibility to provide good training in the use of travel documents.
The card follows the student throughout the school years. If the card is damaged, lost or stops working, you must notify the school. A compensation fee may be issued when ordering a new card.

Complaint

Complaints about the management of rights are addressed to the administrative authority, TRFK / municipality.Complaints about the execution of the transportation are directed to your school.

Ticket
If you are entitled to free school transport, you will receive a “ticket” through a separate travel document. If you do not have such a right, you must pay yourself if you want to travel.

Error on travel document
If you experience errors in the travel document, contact the school.

Ticket control

Ticket control is carried out on all lines and departures on the various modes of transport throughout Trøndelag.

The traveler is always responsible for the ticket being valid and activated on the route you actually travel on when the ticket check is carried out.

Trips that you are required to complete under the auspices of the school must be paid for by the school. Students over the age of 15 will receive an additional fee for missing / invalid ticket.

For travelers under the age of 15, it is the parents’ responsibility that the pupils have a valid ticket, either by using t: card school or that the pupil is equipped with the opportunity to redeem a valid ticket in another way. At a ticket check, the student will receive a note to be delivered at home, in addition to the school will be notified in the case.

In Norway, all students are provided with the minimum necessary equipment for lessons. This includes all stationary and ICT equipment. 1st grade students are provided with a school bag by Statens vegvesen (the state road authority). It is the responsibility of the students to look after these  materials. They may be asked to replace or repair in specific circumstances.

One of the values of the school is respect and sensitivity to other cultures. This should influence the way students dress. Deliberately torn clothing, visible underwear, see through or display of offensive images or words are not allowed. If jewellery is worn it should be minimal, not offensive. We encourage student not to bring objects of value to school. The school is not responsible for lost personal property. Students that do not dress properly will be asked to change or cover unacceptable clothing.

During the autumn and spring months,  rain pants, rain jacket with hood or rain hat, and rain boots are important for outdoor play. In the winter students need good warm winter wear that allows them to be outside when it is -20 degrees Celsius. Students must be prepared for all weather.

Inside shoes must be worn at all times during the school day. It is expected that students change their clothes for Physical Education (PE) lessons. Students must bring appropriate clothing and shoes for these lessons each week.

A friendly reminder to parents that in the interest of student safety, the school parking lot is for staff use only. Please do not use the parking lot for dropping off and picking up your child.

The parking lot is a shared area for both Tomas School and THIS. The parking lot is controlled by Europark – we are not able to assist with any parking fines received.

We ask all parents who drive their children to school to drive carefully and take note of the direction of traffic flow that we wish to create (drive in through Haldens gate and turn right (parking zone on left hand side, for those who are dropping off pre-schoolers and 1st graders) or left (“kiss-and-learn” zone for drop-off of all other children). Please do not leave engine running while dropping children off.

We have a problem with students forgetting shoes, clothes, keys and other personal belongings.
Lost and unidentified items are stored in the lost and found area in the school.  Any unclaimed items will be donated to a charity at the end of each month.

*Please label all clothing and sportswear with the student’s name.

ThIS Healthy Food Agreement
Packing healthy school lunches with fresh foods gives your child the energy to grow, concentrate, learn and play all day.
As a school community we want to help promote being balanced through healthy living and the choosing of a variety of foods to include within our school lunches.
No one food or food group provides all of the nutrients we need for good health.
Packing school lunches with many different kinds of nutritious food choices and minimal sugar is one important way to contribute to active, life-long learning and good health.
Please click here to view our ThIS Healthy Food Agreement.
Parents can order milk for their children at Tine skolemelk (www.skolemelk.no). This is a voluntary program administered by Tine melk.
The instructions on how to sign up for the school milk subscription can be viewed here.

Orders for a daily delivery of milk or juice can be placed directly online through the website of the local dairy, www.skolelyst.no.

Payments are made directly to the dairy and not to ThIS. Information about how the system operates, how to set up an account and place an order is available in English and Norwegian. Once placed, you can administer your own order, including changing the product ordered, cancelling for planned absences, etc. Orders can be placed at any time of the school year. Trondheim International School is registered as a participating school.

In Norway, all children have the right to enjoy a safe and good school environment that promotes health, well-being and learning. This means that your child should not suffer bullying or harassment from other children or from teachers. If your child is unhappy, he or she is entitled to get help from the adults at the school.
